...since when I realized that yesterday they've put some intrusion prevention blocks, in front of both the main entrances of the big mall near where I live... they are made of green marble and disguised as small benches, but clearly they're there to stop a suicide car bomb. And being this the period of the Christmas Holidays, that sure is not a good omen. Also considering that this still is a moment of hard economic crisis for us, and we do not spend a single cent if it's not strictly indispensable, surely they must have had some very good reasons for installing those things...

A suicide car-bombings a "thing" in your area? For a second there I thought you lived in Israel. Don't get me wrong just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean you shouldn't protect against it, I'm just curious if domestic/foreign terrorist attacks are commonplace?

Intrusion prevention devices aren't just, or even usually, to stop suicide bombers - except in downtown Basra or somewhere similar.
These are ridiculously common:

Those devices are also intended to thwart smash-and-grab robberies. Many shopping malls in the US have bollards or concrete planters outside the main doors. I wouldn't read too much into it.
